An after-school activity that works: a winning idea

Started in this school year, the after-school took place at the "Bonifacio" secondary school in Rovigo and involved a group of young people with learning disabilities and special educational needs, through an afternoon support service and guidance in carrying out the tasks. school. The journey ended on Wednesday, with a cheerful greeting party, organized by the project promoters, reflecting the enthusiasm and harmony that was created with the boys.
"The goal was the achievement of small and gradual goals, as well as the development of the sense of self-efficiency and self-esteem - explains the association - We wanted to offer a space in which the disabled person could socialize, increase autonomy, improve cognitive and metacognitive skills ".
The project involved an educational team of 15 volunteers from the Smile Africa Onlus association, coordinated by Francesca Bonafin and Patrizia Bellinello, as well as the professional educator Francesca Mauro, and the psychologist Francesca Francato. The project has led to good results in children's learning. The reference teachers and parents said they were satisfied with the objectives achieved, so the promoters are already working on a new project for next year.
Born eleven years ago to support solidarity projects abroad, the Smile Africa association, led today by Gianni Andreoli, has long been active also in the Rovigo area with projects aimed at young people with disabilities and, in this case, with problems related to learning. Among the latest initiatives, a theatrical experience that saw some children with disabilities and elderly people from the nursing home, together in preparing and then bringing a comedy on stage.
