"The smiling house" project

The choice to realize this project comes from the need to adjust the structure, the equipment and the infrastructures of the present orphanage of Chipole in Tanzania according to the most elementary norms of hygiene and wellbeing. This is to ensure the over 70 children and teenagers till 18 years of age, who lost their parents due to AIDS and other diseases, a healthy environment and a more adequate assistance in terms of personal hygiene, nutrition and medical coverage. The project entails the renovation and the sanitation of the building which hosts the young orphans, the replacement of the furniture to create a clean environment for the wellbeing of the children and youngsters, and the implementation of adequate hygienic norms which are taught to the children and those who take care of them. In particular, the hygienic services have been remade and widened through the provision of an adequate number of showers; the canteen was totally rebuilt, the bedrooms were restored and made more comfortable, the kitchen was made more modern and functional. In this way, we meant to offer a better life expectancy to the hosted children, who were subjected to the loss of their parents, and who are exposed to illnesses due to malnutrition, as well as to the most common diseases in the African continent; we also want to contribute to reduce the risk of child mortality through the monitoring of the health conditions to prevent diseases.
